The New York Labor Law was established to provide for worker safety in a variety of scenarios.  In order to achieve this purpose, the Courts liberally construe its provisions and permit recovery by individuals who are injured as a result of violations of these statutes. In the context of the construction industry, the Courts impose liability pursuant to these statutes on the parties that are ultimately responsible to ensure safety at the worksite, usually the owner and general contractor.
